Tejo Bar
A laid-back alternative spot with low-seating tables, books, and board games.
The owner, Brazilian-born and nicknamed "mané do café," is an amateur artist, novelist, and poet. He hosts daily readings on-site, and the bar also serves as a meeting place for amateur musicians looking to jam with new friends. The spot is very popular with locals, students, musicians, and artists.
At the end of each musical piece, mané asks visitors not to applaud, to keep the noise down for the neighbors. There is, however, an authentic way to show appreciation here: rubbing your hands together.
Another quirk of the place is that everyone serves their own cocktails, drinks, or beers and leaves the money in the box on the bar. It's a friendly, welcoming spot, though perhaps not the best choice if you're looking for a more sophisticated experience.
The place only closes when the people there decide it's time.
