The Lisbon Airport is 10 kilometers from the city center, so with a short trip of about 30 minutes you'll be right in the heart of Lisbon.
The facilities include cafés, restaurants, and Duty Free shops. You'll also find unlimited free Wi-Fi and areas to rest and charge your phone.
For families with babies or young children there is a playground (past security in T1), a lounge with a microwave, a bottle warmer, and a vending machine with snacks and hygiene products.
Now let's get to the most important part: how do you get from the airport to the city center and back?
How to get from Lisbon Airport to the city center
See all available transport options to reach the city center of Lisbon.
From Lisbon Airport to the city center by Metro
Lisbon has an Airport Metro Station, the most popular option among travelers. The station is on the Red Line, the fare is €1.50, and you can reach the center of Lisbon (Baixa) in under 30 minutes.
Taking a bus from Lisbon Airport to the city center
To get to the city center of Lisbon (Chiado, Bairro Alto, Praça do Comércio, etc.) you can take the bus 744 just outside the airport.
The bus will drop you off at Praça do Marquês de Pombal, from where you can walk or take the Metro to wherever you need to go in the center. It is a slow journey with many stops (you can see them all in this PDF), and the trip takes much longer during rush hour on weekdays due to traffic.
- Fare: €2.
Additionally, the bus 708 connects the Martim Moniz area with the airport and the Parque das Naçõesarea; you can see all the stops on this route in this PDF.
Public Bus from Lisbon Airport – Available 24 hours
For those arriving late or leaving early, there is an alternative: take the bus 208 which runs between 0:30 and 5:35.
This bus covers the route Cais Sodré – Aeroporto – Estação do Oriente (Trains to the rest of Portugal).
- Fare: €2.
By Taxi from Lisbon Airport
If you're traveling in a group of 3 or 4 people, you can take a taxi and split the fare. However, be aware that many taxi drivers try to overcharge tourists beyond what the meter shows, so it's important to check the surcharges for luggage, number of passengers, time of day, and so on.
If it seems too expensive, ask them to explain everything in writing. And finally, if you think you're being ripped off, request a receipt in your name, which must itemize all charges.
Is a transfer from Lisbon Airport worth it?
If you'd rather not worry about which taxi driver you end up with, there is the option of a private transfer from the airport of Lisbon. Ideal when traveling with several people, as a family, or in a group. It's also ideal if you're heading to more distant destinations such as Cascais, Estoril, Almada, or Sintra.
- Price: from €24

The Aerobus costs €4 and offers a more comfortable ride with fewer stops, allowing you to use both available lines from the airport for 24 hours from first use. It gets closer to the city center than public bus 744, as it stops at Avenida da Liberdade, Praça dos Restauradores, Rossio, Praça do Comércio and Cais do Sodré (trains to Cascais). A second line covers the city's financial district. It runs from 7am to 11pm.
