From Lisbon Airport to the city center by Metro

Taking a bus from Lisbon Airport to the city center

To get to the city center of Lisbon (Chiado, Bairro Alto, Praça do Comércio, etc.) you can take the bus 744 just outside the airport.

The bus will drop you off at Praça do Marquês de Pombal, from where you can walk or take the Metro to wherever you need to go in the center. It is a slow journey with many stops (you can see them all in this PDF), and the trip takes much longer during rush hour on weekdays due to traffic.

Public Bus from Lisbon Airport – Available 24 hours

For those arriving late or leaving early, there is an alternative: take the bus 208 which runs between 0:30 and 5:35.

This bus covers the route Cais Sodré – Aeroporto – Estação do Oriente (Trains to the rest of Portugal).

It gets closer to the city center than public bus 744, as it stops at Avenida da Liberdade, Praça dos Restauradores, Rossio, Praça do Comércio and Cais do Sodré (trains to Cascais). A second line covers the city's financial district. It runs from 7am to 11pm.
